Lighter Robinhood is a perpetual-futures venue running on Robinhood Chain, operated by the Lighter team. The critical thing to understand before anything else is that it is not the same venue as Lighter mainnet. Lighter itself describes it as a new Lighter instance built for Robinhood Chain β the first Lighter Domain, with separate execution, sequencing, blockspace and liquidity. Two venues, one operator, two entirely different order books.
What is Lighter Robinhood?
ORBIT learned that the hard way, and the correction is worth recording because it is the kind of mistake that is easy to make from the outside. An earlier assessment concluded this was not a separate venue at all β merely a coverage gap β reasoning from the fact that ticker symbols matched. That assessment was made without ever querying the Robinhood Chain host. When the two hosts were finally measured in the same minute, the conclusion inverted: 44 markets here against 231 on mainnet, a different market-id space entirely (HYPE is id 2 here and id 24 on mainnet, NVDA 15 against 110), and β decisively β different resting orders. The best ask on ANTHROPIC was 1934.1 here against 1925.7 on mainnet, with different order ids, different owners and different sizes. One order book cannot return two different order books.
The collateral asset is another separator: this instance settles in USDG, not the USDC used on Lighter mainnet. And the catalogue is not merely a subset β SGOV, SLV, USAR and USO trade here and nowhere else in the Lighter family.
The fee schedule is the headline for anyone cost-sensitive: zero taker and zero maker. That is not a rounding of a small number or a promotional window β the venue's own catalogue reports 0.0000 on every market. It reflects the Robinhood retail model, where the venue monetises order flow rather than charging a commission per fill.
This review covers what the venue is and how it differs from Lighter mainnet, its live metrics, the live 2x points programme and its restrictions, the two funding unit traps that make naive comparisons wrong, custody and chain considerations, the real risks, and how its hourly funding sits against every other venue tracked on ORBIT.
Lighter Robinhood key metrics (2026)
The figures below are read live from ORBIT rather than written into the article, so they cannot go stale. Read them with the venue's size in mind: 44 markets is a curated list, not a long tail, and liquidity is concentrated in the majors and the equity products that the Robinhood audience actually trades. The per-market open interest table is the one that matters for sizing a funding position β a venue-level total tells you nothing about whether your specific pair can absorb your notional.

Lighter Robinhood key features for traders
Zero fees on both sides is the structural advantage, and it compounds hardest in exactly the strategy ORBIT is built for. A delta-neutral funding position pays taker fees four times across a round trip on two legs; removing one leg's fees entirely changes which spreads are worth taking. A spread that is unprofitable against two 5 bps venues can clear comfortably when one leg costs nothing.
The second is the catalogue. Treasury and commodity exposure β SGOV, USO, SLV β sitting beside crypto majors on one margin account, funded on the same hourly grid, is unusual. SGOV in particular is a short-Treasury ETF, an instrument whose perpetual form barely exists anywhere else.
- Zero taker and zero maker fees: 0.0000 on every market in the venue's own catalogue β not a promotional rate.
- Hourly funding: settles every hour, verified from the data itself (every history gap exactly 3600 seconds, 24 points per day, no exceptions).
- Live 2x points programme: real-time accrual on eligible volume, with a weekly drop each Friday.
- USDG collateral: a separate collateral asset from Lighter mainnet, reflecting a genuinely separate instance.
- Exclusive markets: SGOV, SLV, USAR and USO trade here and not on Lighter mainnet.
- Public funding history: unlike mainnet Lighter, whose REST history sits behind a CloudFront block, this instance serves history openly β so ORBIT could backfill it rather than waiting to accumulate it.
- Live-tracked on ORBIT: funding, depth and cross-venue spreads appear beside every other venue on the Funding Screener.
Lighter Robinhood points & airdrop
The points programme here is live, not speculative, which distinguishes this venue from most pre-token DEXs. Robinhood Wallet and Lighter launched a 2x points programme for perpetual traders on 10 August 2026, as part of an allocation of roughly $11M in LIT to the Robinhood community. Points accrue in real time on eligible volume, with a drop each Friday β the first landed on 21 August 2026.
The multiplier depends on how you access the venue: 2x through Robinhood Wallet, 1x through the Lighter web app. That is a meaningful difference for anyone farming deliberately, and it is the sort of detail that decides which route you should use before you start rather than after.
Geographic restrictions are real and worth checking first. The programme is not available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and other restricted regions. If you are in one of those jurisdictions, the farming thesis does not apply to you regardless of how attractive the rest of the venue looks.
One genuine open question deserves stating rather than papering over: $LIT already trades β the mainnet token generation event happened in December 2025 β so this is not a pre-TGE farm where you are speculating on whether a token will exist. What is unannounced is the conversion mechanics for this specific pool: when it converts, at what rate, and against what snapshot. Anyone modelling a dollar return per unit of volume is filling in a number the venue has not published.
That is also why ORBIT states the programme in the Airdrop Calendar but does not fabricate a points-per-volume rate for it. Every venue we checked in a previous audit turned out not to publish such a rate at all β they distribute a fixed pool pro-rata to activity, which means the value of a point depends on total participation and cannot be a constant. Quoting one would be inventing it.
Lighter Robinhood trading fees
Lighter Robinhood charges 0 bps taker and 0 bps maker on perpetuals. On a round-trip β entry and exit, and across two venues if you trade delta-neutral β those fees are the first thing any spread has to overcome. ORBIT's backtester subtracts both legs' taker fees plus live order-book slippage, so the PnL it shows is net, not headline.
Zero on both sides is genuinely zero here, and it is worth being precise about what that does and does not mean for a funding trade. It removes the fee term on this leg entirely β but a delta-neutral position has two legs, and the other venue still charges. It also does not remove slippage, which on a 44-market venue is the term that actually decides whether a spread is takeable. ORBIT's backtester walks the live book on both legs and subtracts real slippage under your size, so the zero-fee advantage shows up as a genuinely better net figure rather than as a marketing claim. Check Size & Depth for how much the pair absorbs before you size into it.
| Cost component | Lighter Robinhood | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Taker fee | 0 bps | Zero across the whole catalogue |
| Maker fee | 0 bps | Zero β Robinhood retail model |
| Funding interval | 1 hour | Verified from history spacing, not docs |
| Collateral | USDG | Differs from Lighter mainnet (USDC) |
| Round trip, one leg | ~0 bps | Fee term only β slippage still applies |
Funding rates on Lighter Robinhood
Lighter Robinhood settles funding every 1h. Funding is the payment between longs and shorts that anchors the perpetual to spot β and because every venue computes its own rate, the same asset can pay very differently on Lighter Robinhood than on another exchange at the same moment. That gap is a tradeable, delta-neutral edge.
Is Lighter Robinhood safe?
The venue is non-custodial: you trade from your own wallet and the operator does not hold your margin, which removes the class of failure where an exchange halts withdrawals or becomes insolvent holding client funds. That substitutes a different risk profile rather than eliminating risk.
The operator track record is a genuine mitigant. Lighter has run a mainnet perpetual venue with a live token through real market conditions, and this instance inherits that engineering. The API conventions show it β a clean hourly funding grid, consistent units within each endpoint, and a public history endpoint where the mainnet product has none.
Robinhood Chain is a young network, so settlement and liveness rest on infrastructure without years of adversarial history behind it. That is the standard caveat for any new chain, and it applies here.
The specific dependency to weigh is the equity and treasury half of the catalogue. When you trade a perpetual on SGOV or USO you are trading against a price feed and a wrapper, not holding the instrument. Outside US market hours the underlying primary market is closed, so price discovery on those markets is thinner and more oracle-dependent than on the crypto book β which is precisely where the venue is most distinctive.
One structural detail that affects execution rather than safety: the order book endpoint returns individual orders, not aggregated price levels. Fifty orders on the ask side collapsed to 35 distinct prices when ORBIT measured it. Any tool that treats each order as a separate level will understate depth; ORBIT folds equal prices before computing slippage.
Lighter Robinhood risks and considerations
- Geographic restrictions. The points programme is not available in the US, UK, Canada and other restricted regions. Check eligibility before building a farming plan around it.
- Conversion mechanics unannounced. $LIT already trades, but how this pool converts β rate, timing, snapshot β has not been published. Any per-point dollar figure you see quoted is someone's estimate.
- Young chain. Robinhood Chain has not accumulated the adversarial operating history that makes a settlement layer boring in the way traders want it to be.
- Oracle dependency on equity and treasury markets. SGOV, USO, SLV and the equity perps reference price feeds and wrappers, and their primary markets close outside session hours.
- Smaller catalogue than mainnet. 44 markets against 231 on Lighter mainnet. If the asset you want to pair is not here, the venue is irrelevant to that trade no matter how cheap its fees are.
- Do not treat it as interchangeable with Lighter mainnet. Separate liquidity, separate order book, separate collateral asset. A quote on one tells you nothing reliable about fills on the other.
How to get started with Lighter Robinhood
- Check eligibility first β the points programme excludes the US, UK, Canada and other restricted regions, and that determines whether the farming case applies to you at all.
- Decide your access route before you start: Robinhood Wallet earns 2x, the Lighter web app earns 1x. Switching later does not retroactively upgrade what you already accrued.
- Open Lighter Robinhood, connect a wallet and deposit USDG β note the collateral asset differs from Lighter mainnet.
- Find a live divergence on the Funding Screener between this venue and another on the same asset, remembering that its zero fees change which spreads clear.
- Verify the book absorbs your size on Size & Depth β with the fee term at zero, slippage is the term that decides the trade.
- Confirm the net figure in the backtester against real book depth before committing.
Lighter Robinhood vs Lighter
The comparison that matters most is Lighter mainnet, because the two are routinely confused and they are not interchangeable: same operator and overlapping tickers, but separate execution, separate liquidity, different collateral and a catalogue less than a fifth the size. The other useful benchmark is Hyperliquid, the deepest on-chain perpetual venue and the default anchor leg for most DEX funding pairs. For a delta-neutral trade the question is never which venue is better in the abstract β it is which one is currently paying the wrong funding relative to the other, and whether both books hold your size.
Lighter Robinhood is also frequently weighed against Hyperliquid β see the Lighter Robinhood vs Hyperliquid comparison for the full breakdown.
Lighter Robinhood review: verdict
Lighter Robinhood is a genuinely distinct venue that is easy to mistake for a mirror of Lighter mainnet, and treating it as one will cost you. Its real advantages are concrete rather than speculative: zero fees on both sides, which changes the arithmetic of every funding spread you evaluate; hourly funding on a clean grid; a live 2x points programme with weekly drops rather than an unannounced maybe; and treasury and commodity perpetuals that barely exist elsewhere. The honest limits are equally concrete β a 44-market catalogue against mainnet's 231, a young chain, oracle dependency on exactly the markets that make it interesting, and geographic restrictions that exclude several major jurisdictions from the points programme entirely. If you are eligible and the asset you want is listed, the zero-fee structure alone justifies keeping it in the rotation; the points are upside on top of an edge that already exists.
